A decarbonization project for a gas boiler replacement at the factory of AHT Rottenmann

AHT Cooling Systems is the leading provider of plug-in, environmentally friendly deep-freeze systems and a perfect partner for food retailers and food manufacturers. For their factory in Rottenmann, Daikin realized an industrial heat pump project to replace gas boiler heating and support AHT’s ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of their facilities.

Products installed
4x EWYT-B
2x EWWH-VZ

Total capacity: 2500 kW

About the project
For this project Daikin had to come up with an efficient, smart, and sustainable heat pump systems solution, able to provide a sustainable, flexible, energy saving and reliable solution to cover AHT’s year-round heating demands. The comprehensive Daikin industrial heat pump portfolio met all of the customer’s requirements, including full compatibility with the existing photovoltaic system as an energy source.

The solutions consisted of a heat pump cascade with a totally installed heating capacity of 1,200 kW for heating of the production facility, the office building and for domestic hot water supply. Additionally, a further extension of a heat pump installation of 500 kW is planned to be added in the future.

More about the solution supplied
The project scope included the delivery and assembling of all Daikin heat pumps, supervision during the installation, commissioning, testing and functional checks and a contract for maintenance.

After taking all the requirements into consideration, Daikin designed a solution consisting of four air-cooled Daikin heat pumps with R-32 refrigerant as energy source for two water-to-water heat pumps EWWH-VZ featuring R-1234ze refrigerant to ensure year-round heating of AHT facilities and deliver a hot water production of up to +73°C. An energy loop with temperature levels of 15°C to 20°C ensures maximum efficiency of the heating system.
