Air Handling Units for hospitals

Air Handling Units for hospitals - The New Papworth Hospital project is the demonstration of how Daikin Air Handling Units are a great solution even for the most sensitive applications like hospitals.

Project information

The New Papworth Hospital is a facility built from scratch on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and is part of the international centre of excellence in biomedical research. It is this construction by Skanska, worth approximately £165m. For this project, Daikin provided 60 HTM-compliant Professional AHUs - 42 Internal and 18 External, with various air volumes - plus 3 water-cooled chillers EWWQ 430 L SS, totalling 1MW of cooling. It is one of the biggest health sector construction projects in the UK.

How Daikin provided value to the project

Daikin has provided value with its cutting-edge and sustainable technology, helping to comply with the efficiency standards required (EN 1235/14), for both heat recovery and overall AHU power. Also, the selection and use of an efficient EC fan and motor solution were important aspects that helped achieve the efficiency goals. These fan arrangements used single fans, twin fans and multiple fan arrays, which also allowed for increased resilience and rapid service.
