Air Handling Units for industrial applications

To ensure the highest quality and safety of industrial products, it is essential to maintain specific environmental conditions. In the pharmaceutical sector, air pollutants can affect the efficacy and safety of products, posing a risk to workers' health. The air handling unit (AHU) is crucial for managing and controlling contaminants, ensuring optimal air quality, and preventing pollution. In this article, you will find a summary of the main challenges in industrial ventilation air treatment, which are explored in greater detail within the Paper.

How Daikin can overcome the main challenges in industrial ventilation air treatment

Removing all types of contaminants

Air quality control is crucial in sensitive applications, especially pharmaceutical plants, to remove contamination. To address this challenge, Daikin offers its Professional AHU, which utilises HEPA filters with high filtration efficiency. It operates with airflows ranging from 500 to 150,000 m³/h, ensuring superior indoor air quality (IAQ). Additionally, Daikin provides precise humidity control through its IEQ Sensor, which maintains accuracy within ± 3%. Daikin AHUs offer two types of humidification systems: adiabatic and isothermal (steam) humidifiers.

Guaranteeing compliance with regulations

Industrial plants must comply with strict air quality and safety regulations, necessitating continuous monitoring and updating of ventilation systems to meet evolving standards. Daikin IEQ Sensor meets these requirements by providing adequate ventilation and incorporating measurement and control devices to monitor and manage indoor air quality actively.

Ensuring energy efficiency & cost reduction

Daikin air handling units (AHUs) utilise high-efficiency heat wheels to recover up to 90% of heat from exhaust air, significantly reducing energy consumption. Additionally, improving Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) can lead to further energy savings by adjusting fresh air supply to meet actual demand through Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV). Daikin integrates its IEQ sensor with AHUs to ensure excellent IEQ with minimal energy consumption.

Achieving high reliability and maintenance

Daikin’s AHUs are equipped with EC fan systems, requiring less frequent maintenance compared to traditional fans. For preventive maintenance, Daikin on Site (DoS) is the ideal solution. This remote monitoring platform enhances efficiency, reliability, and servicing, reducing downtime. It allows for complete remote operation with different user access levels. Lastly, it is particularly important to plan overhauls promptly to keep equipment in excellent condition. Daikin can enhance energy efficiency and indoor air quality (IAQ) by offering AHU upgrades and refurbishments. By replacing key components, upgrading to new technologies, and recommissioning, Daikin can improve old AHUs without the need to replace the entire unit.

The need for reliable partners

It is advisable to rely on HVAC experts. Specialized manufacturers like Daikin, the world's leading air conditioning company, can meet these needs with competence. Daikin has been designing and manufacturing air handling units (AHUs) in Europe for over 50 years, with production sites in Cramlington (UK) and Caleppio di Settala (Italy), reducing transport costs due to proximity to installation locations.
