Daikin has recently supplied 6 chillers to a leading Saudi-based total utility solutions provider executing bespoke turnkey projects in power generation, cooling, water, and renewables across Saudi Arabia. The company is building its chiller rental fleet and was considering different manufacturers. Daikin was the one meeting their needs, though.

About the products and the project

The units supplied will be used to build the rental fleet the company will used to meet the cooling needs of industrial plants in the Saudi Arabia area.

The chillers chosen by the customer are from the Daikin M Series, a range of products specifically designed to stand and perform in Middle East environments, able to perfectly operate in high ambient temperature conditions and exposure to dust.

The customer was looking for solutions that could guarantee great reliability in the high ambient temperatures and dusty environments, but also impressive overall energy efficiency.

The M series is a range designed to perform in environmental conditions that are specific to the Middle East, i.e. temperatures between 46° and 55° Celsius. The compressor generally used for such applications is a Daikin single screw technology compressor, which allows the inrush current on these chillers to be near to zero. This is extremely important for the Middle East market, because it makes these machines compliant with local directives.

Besides that, with the M Series offers an extensive list of options allowing the units in the Series to meet the wide range of needs in high temperature cooling projects.

Among these there is the High Ambient Kit, for instance, which includes oversized electrical equipment (for instance main switch, fuses, cables) to guarantee reliability and components’ operating life. Besides that, Daikin also offers a set of options to protect unit’s components from aggressive sunbeams or extreme heat, like sunshields, enhanced ventilation in the electrical panel, or refrigerant condensing temperature control, ensured by dedicated fans speed control.

Other than flexibility and adaptability to the different challenges high temperature industrial projects might put chillers in, the customers were looking for absolute reliability.

This requirement was easily satisfied with technology that has been successfully used in many different projects over the last 20 years and that has made Daikin an absolute leader in the screw compressor field.

The single screw compressor designed and manufactured by Daikin, differently from a screw compressor, uses one main screw meshing with twin star rotors to produce volume matching compression cycle. Due to the main rotor, balanced in both radial and axial direction, the compressor bearing has extremely high reliability. Therefore, its life span can be longer than other screw compressors. The single screw compressor, then, has only three moving parts. As a result of that, it reduces the possibility of failure and keeps operation costs low.
