The cooling needs of a hospital

The Tekirdağ City Hospital project is an example of how Daikin can meet the cooling needs of a hospital.

We recently met Mr Kemal AKA, Technical Manager for Applied Products at Daikin Turkey. He was here at Daikin Applied Europe factory with his clients for a witness test. It was a great chance for them, not only to verify that the units worked as expected but also to get a sense of the Daikin world.

The cooling needs of Tekirdağ City Hospital

“Tekirdağ City Hospital is a government project for a huge hospital complex in Tekirdağ City, not far from Istanbul. The hospital area is about 157.000 square meters. It is going to accommodate 480 beds and 16 surgery rooms. So, it is a big facility. For this project, Daikin is providing six centrifugal DWSC chillers for a total cooling capacity of 23 MW. Other than that, Daikin is providing two R-32 air-cooled chillers with microchannel condensers. They will provide a cooling load of 450 kW, each. We have two air-cooled chillers because they are going to be used for surgery rooms, where temperature control is very important. So, one of these two chiller is going to be used as a main unit and the other as a backup option.

Find here a video about how Daikin R-32 chiller range can provide value for your project.

For the optimization of this chiller system, they are going to use the Intelligent Chiller Manager iCM. It is Daikin system control for chiller plant optimization. It will ensure the system will work as efficiently as possible.

Main aspects of the project

The main aspects of this project were efficiency and reliability. But also the level of support Daikin can provide on the territory was particularly relevant.

As far as reliability, I think we all understand how important reliability is for hospitals where patients need thermal comfort, and equipment and surgery rooms require perfect temperature control. Because of that, having a system that ensures continuity of operations is very important. The client has full confidence in Daikin, and in the ability of its technology to provide the facility with what it needs. Also, the leadership in the sector of a brand like Daikin have had a role. It has made the choice easier.

Sustainability, then, has been another relevant aspect. The client has chosen R-32 units for the low GWP refrigerant and their low impact on the environment”.
