Daikin has recently supplied an air-cooled screw inverter chiller to meet the cooling needs of a company operating in the chemical industry. The plant is based in Italy.
Products Installed:
2x EWAD-TZ
Cooling capacity: 2,200 kW
About the project and the challenge
This project aims at providing a plastics products manufacturing plant with a cooling system able to cool down industrial equipment, and environments both in the production facility and offices.
The main needs for this project were, of course, reliability and energy efficiency, especially at part load.
The solution
Daikin managed to meet the requirements for the project supplying 2 air-cooled screw inverter chillers from the TZ range, which, thanks to Daikin the in-house designed compressor, can offer outstanding energy efficiency level and perfect adaptability to load variation.
To ensure even greater efficiency, besides taking advantage of the inverter technology, Daikin provided a solution including the master/slave control concept, which allows the two units to operate as one, distributing load even more efficiently.
It is common knowledge that chiller systems spend most of their operating hours at conditions different than design, and that occurs even in process cooling applications. That is why it is important to have a system technology which can perform adequately, despite the load variation during the year or even the day.
Daikin’s screw inverter compressors can fully meet the above-mentioned need, adjusting their effort to the facility’s cooling needs, constantly ensuring the chiller’s load adaptation to the cooling demand, then making the unit very efficient both at part load and full load. The master/slave control option, then, took adaptability to a system level, further enhancing the overall energy efficiency of the HVAC plant.
As far as reliability, the Daikin screw inverter technology was at the base of the customer’s choice, as it is designed to make chillers extremely reliable.
Daikin single screw compressors, differently from other screw compressors, they use one main screw meshing with twin star rotors to produce volume matching compression cycle. Due to the main rotor, balanced in both radial and axial direction, the compressor bearing has extremely high reliability. Therefore, its life span can be longer than other screw compressors. The single screw compressor, then, has only three moving parts. As a result of that, possibilities of failure are reduced, and operation costs are kept at a lower level.
Besides that, Daikin has a history of leadership in the field of single screw compressor chillers, which have been successfully installed all over the world for over 20 years. Over time, Daikin has introduced ground-breaking designs, constantly pushing the development of the screw compressor technology in new and innovative directions. That helped the brand growing a reputation for offering high quality and very reliable screw compressor solutions.
