NEEDS & SOLUTIONS
Workplace comfort and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) are important aspects when it comes to office buildings. HVAC systems are responsible for the thermal comfort in buildings and the level of indoor air quality (IAQ).
The key objectives of this project were to achieve high energy efficiency and ensure that the unit operated with very low noise. The customer also specified the importance of control solutions such as Modbus RTU communication and Daikin Onsite monitoring cloud software.
To meet all the requirements and satisfy these requests, Daikin supplied an EWAT-B- chiller.

Chiller efficiency with scroll compressors
We assume that HVAC systems usually consume a good portion of the total energy used in office buildings. For this reason, it is important to choose energy-efficient HVAC solutions. Office buildings’ load can vary depending on the season, with a significant impact on the energy efficiency of the building. So, the variation in load demand of the building must be considered. Part-load efficiency refers to the ability of a system to handle energy use at part-load and should be taken into consideration when specifying a chiller so that it can deliver the exact load requirement with the minimum power input. The EWAT-B- range makes use of different scroll compressors to deliver the requested cooling capacity, and therefore manages the staging of the compressors to adapt to the required load, limiting on-off cycles.
Noise reduction configuration on air-cooled chillers
Another aspect to consider is Low noise, which is crucial when designing an HVAC system for offices. The lower the noise produced by the HVAC system, the better for occupants, as sources of disturbance such as noise are avoided. So, it is important to consider technology that can reduce noise emissions from the system. This unit, also operates at a lower noise level, making it ideal for an office environment. This is the result of the reduced noise configuration of the unit, by means of dedicated compressor cabinets and further reduction of vibrations thanks to piping insulations.
Remote monitoring of chiller units
In addition to being energy-efficient, it is also important to make the facility more effective. Therefore, being able to monitor and optimize HVAC systems’ operations is key when it comes to responding both to the comfort and efficiency demands of this building type. Proper remote systems and control tools can be a great help facility managers can significantly benefit from. The EWAT-B- unit is fully compatible with Daikin's cloud-based monitoring platform, Daikin on Site. It provides 24/7 real-time data, all year round. It tracks units and components’ behaviour and monitors their correct functionality, allowing to creation of periodical reports for an in-depth analysis of the system's performance.
Also, Daikin on Site allows facilities to move away from on-site maintenance staff for day-to-day operational needs. Furthermore, can allow multi-site building operators to centralize facility monitoring and control, helping troubleshoot technical issues from a distance.
The customer chose to integrate this control option to enhance the system's advanced functionality, ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the equipment while taking proactive measures to prevent potential failures.
