Daikin has recently supplied 3 air-cooled chiller units from the T Series and the Bluevolution range to meet the cooling needs of a large retail centre near Cape Town, in South Africa.
Products Installed:
2x EWAD-T-
1x EWAT-B-
Cooling capacity: Over 3 MW
About the products and the project
The above-mentioned products are being installed in the context of a revamping project which involve centre a retail centre with a mix of tenants.
The centre originally opened in 1972 and is celebrating 50 years of existence this year. The whole facility has been renovated and upgraded with a tenant mix extension, which brought big brands in the building.
This project required, of course, reliability and efficiency, which Daikin was able to ensure with a mix of screw and scroll products, fully meeting the end-customer’s needs.
More about Daikin’s screw inverter technology and the project
Daikin met the cooling needs of the whole facility supplying screw compressor chillers from the T Series and a scroll R-32 chiller from the EWAT-B Series. The 3 units ensured the 3 MW cooling capacity target was met with outstanding energy efficiency levels, ensured by the Daikin in-house designed and manufactured single screw compressor technology, and scroll technology optimized to work with R-32 refrigerant.
Other than energy efficiency, Daikin was also able to ensure undisputed reliability.
Daikin’s single screw compressor, for instance, using a unique design, can guarantee a longer life span than other screw compressors, reducing possibility of failures, keeping operation costs low and ensuring absolute reliability of the chiller.
As far as scroll technology, then, Daikin has huge experience in developing R-32 technology.
In 2018, Daikin was an early innovator and made history by introducing the first R-32 refrigerant chillers, followed by free-cooling scroll units the same year, the R-32 Heat Pump in 2020, and the R-32 Small Inverter Chiller in 2021.
Today, Daikin is the brand with the highest number of R-32 installations in the world, as a testimony to the experience, the knowledge, the quality and the reliability of its R-32 products.

Another important tool that Daikin supplied was Daikin on Site.
Daikin On Site (DoS) is a remote monitoring tool, that can provide 24/7 real time data, all year round, tracking chiller plants operations and their correct functionality. All this to allow plant owners to take preventive actions and avoid extra costs associated with breakdowns and downtime.
From a plant manager perspective, Daikin on Site can be beneficial in so many ways.
Every time there is an alarm, plant managers can easily recognize the problem and find the right solution. Through this platform they can also evaluate all the parameters in real time and if there is a need for any settings adjustment, they can act remotely. All of this allows to improve units’ efficiency and management, allowing to plan preventive maintenance and increasing systems’ reliability.
