Selected for the 2nd time as an Advanced Global Company for Climate Change Measures

Daikin has been selected for the second time as an Advanced Global Company for Climate Change Measures in CDP’s “Climate Change A List”.

The CDP is an international environmental non-profit organization that operates a global environmental information disclosure system for companies and local governments.

The CDP collects, analyzes, and evaluates information concerning the environmental activities of major global companies and selects every year the companies that stood out for their innovation, or their climate change initiatives, including them in the Climate Change A List. For this fiscal year, CDP evaluated 15,000 companies and selected the top 283 global companies, including 74 Japanese companies.

Daikin is known for focusing on developing technology that has “making the world a better place” as a purpous. Helping solving issues while growing the business. The group has always strived to meet expectations and maintain trust worldwide as a global company that supports human health and comfort while creating new value for air and the environment.

To achieve that, Daikin has been putting special attention into reducing human impact on the environment by developing environmentally sustainable and highly efficient technologies, but also constantly reducing the environmental impact during production processes Group-wide.

The 2nd inclusion in the CDP “A List” for excelling in climate change measures and corporate disclosure is one the results of such a focus by Daikin.

Daikin’s vision for carbon neutrality

Daikin has developed a log-term vision, making predictions on how society will change by 2050, and based on that, a direction to solve environmental problems has been set.

In the Environment Vision 2050, Daikin sets the strategy to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions from company business activities by 2050.

To do that, the company has set an intermediate target for a 50% reduction by 2030 (the reduction is calculated by comparing business-as-usual emissions using fiscal year 2019 as the base year), and established measures that will eventually lead to carbon neutrality.

Those measures include production stage actions aimed at avoiding waist through the LEAN manufacturing approach, but also the development of highly energy efficient technology, the increase of end-users environmental consciousness, increasing awareness of the importance of indoor air quality and offering solutions to create more healthy indoor spaces, and finally, promoting the creation of a circular economy of refrigerant, which allows Daikin to avoid the production and the disposal of 400,000 kg of refrigerant a year.

Daikin Applied Europe contribution

Daikin Applied Europe, as part of the Daikin, is fully aligned with the group’s vision, carrying out a range of initiatives to support the Environment Vision 2050.

From promoting the development of new products and technologies that will result in a healthier world, to initiatives aimed at raising awareness towards the need to respect the environment around us, Daikin Applied Europe is committing to reducing the HVAC sector’s impact on the environment through specific initiatives and actions:

  • Efficient Applied products development

Daikin Applied Europe has been standing out for providing ground-breaking solutions in the Applied sector, from low environmental impact solutions featuring low GWP solutions, guaranteeing the lowest amount of both direct and indirect CO2 emissions with the R-32 line of products; or screw inverter technologies, which can ensure high energy efficiency levels and outstanding products durability.

Besides that, Daikin is providing technology that is pushing the electrification of heating, allowing, then, to potentially rely on clean energy rather than using fossil fuels to generate heat.

  • The LEAN manufacturing

The LEAN Manufacturing is a Japanese approach the Daikin Group made his own, and Daikin Applied Europe shares.

This approach aims at constantly minimizing waste and making the whole manufacturing process as efficient as possible, bringing the company to the highest level of excellence.

  • Getting manufacturing environmental impact lower and lower

Daikin Applied Europe, then, constantly strives to minimize the manufacturing facilities’ environmental impact. Among the different actions taken to achieve the goal, there is the limitation in fossil fuels use, in conjunction with the use of certified renewable energy, which has avoided considerable amounts of CO2 emissions on a yearly basis.

  • Taking part to the L∞P program by Daikin

Daikin Applied Europe has recently extended the L∞P program by Daikin to chillers, starting to use certified reclaimed R-134a and R-32 refrigerants for chiller ranges available under the L∞P brand.

The L∞P program by Daikin aims at creating a circular economy of refrigerants, supporting Daikin Industries environmental policy for 2050, contributing to avoiding production of virgin refrigerants and the environmental impact that would have the disposal of end-of-life refrigerant.
