Low PUE chiller solution for the largest data center in Norway

Click here to learn more about an important project in which Daikin supplied 71 free cooling chillers, 330 fan array units, and 8 control systems for Norway's largest data center, OSL-Hamar, owned by Green Mountain. The construction of OSL-Hamar included state-of-the-art infrastructure, with significant installed power and an average PUE of 1.2, setting a new industry standard. The facility currently consists of 3 main buildings, each including 30 MW of IT power, and runs exclusively on renewable energy from multiple hydropower plants.

Sustainable data center cooling solutions in Germany

A clear example of how Daikin promotes sustainability by reducing the environmental impact and operating costs of data centers is the project carried out in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. In this project, Daikin provided 140 CRAH units, enabling a data center colocator to collaborate with the city and reuse the data center's heat rejection to warm the entire city. This project demonstrates how data center applications can operate sustainably, creating positive synergies with the cities that host them. This cooperation between the data centre colocator and local authorities has resulted in a solution that benefits both the environment and the local economy. Additionally, we would like to remind you that Daikin Applied Germany is a partner of the German Datacenter Association (GDA), an association of operators and owners of data centers of all sizes.

Pro-C CRAH unit for Data Center cooling

The latest addition to the Daikin Data Center portfolio is the new Pro-C, recently unveiled at Data Centre World (DCW) 2025. This computer room air handler (CRAH) is designed to meet the cooling requirements of any data center configuration, offering an optimized design and advanced control strategies. With a cooling capacity ranging from 30 kW to 210 kW, its flexibility and modularity allow it to adapt perfectly to any data center layout and requirements. Efficiency is a key aspect, achieved through features such as optimized chilled water heat exchangers, the latest generation of EC fans, and the integration of pressure-independent control valves and active harmonic filters. Reliability is ensured by advanced control strategies and automatic transfer switches to prevent power failures.

Daikin’s Data Center comprehensive product portfolio

Daikin's portfolio for Data Centers includes a variety of cutting-edge products and systems tailored to meet specific needs. A summary description of the portfolio is provided here below:

  • Air-to-water free cooling chillers: Daikin free cooling chillers utilise low ambient air temperatures to reduce the need for mechanical cooling, thereby cutting energy consumption and extending equipment life. The series includes glycol-free options, which offer additional benefits such as reduced maintenance and improved efficiency. The series covers from 183 to 2154 kW and is available under two compressor technologies: scroll, and VFD screw (Daikin-developed) for optimal part load efficiency. Also, Daikin-owned VFD is cooled down by refrigerant, ensuring proper operation in all working conditions.
  • Intelligent Data Centre Manager (iDCM) control system: it ensures optimal performance over time by leveraging AI-supported plant management. The iDCM system monitors and adjusts the operation of multiple chiller units, to maintain peak efficiency and reliability.
  • Pro-W Fan Array units: designed for flexibility and scalability. These units are available in 4 sizes, covering from 175 to 700 kW. Thereby, Pro-W units can be employed to meet the cooling needs of Data Centers of all sizes, providing efficient and reliable cooling solutions.
  • Pro-C CRAH units: the ideal solution for thermal management, featuring optimized design and advanced control strategies. Available in two configurations, covering from 30 kW to 210 kW, it meets the demands of any Data Center configuration, ensuring precise temperature control, flexibility, redundancy, and low operating costs.
  • After-sales services: Daikin can provide preventive and corrective maintenance services to ensure the efficiency and reliability of Data Center cooling systems. Additionally, Daikin offers real-time remote monitoring services to identify and resolve issues before they affect system performance.
  • Rental cooling equipment: Daikin can provide rental chillers when needed, ensuring greater solution redundancy. For more information, click here.
