Daikin announces the release of Smart Control System (SCS), a control solution suitable to manage hydronic plants including chillers, heat pumps, air handling units and fan coils. The solution, developed by Daikin, will be available soon, in January 2025. SCS allows optimization of working conditions of a whole HVAC system, focusing on comfort applications as light commercial, offices, small and medium hotels.
SCS is the latest development of Daikin control solutions dedicated to the management of hydronic HVAC plants, facilitating design, installation and operation. By means of SCS, a complete Daikin solution can be designed and supplied, including: chillers, heat pumps, air handling units (AHUs) and fan coils. SCS is available as an external panel to be connected to the units in the system via Modbus protocol.
The above scheme describes a simplified architecture, where Daikin Products (heat pumps, AHUs, fan coils) are managed by SCS through Modbus/RS-485 communication. That implies SCS is controlling and optimising the entire system, including:
Smart Control System is offered in three main configurations, allowing for scalability in hardware license and price.
Each version can manage up to 4 chillers or heat pumps with a total cooling capacity of up to 500 kW and additional equipment as follows:
1. Light (up 500 datapoints): up to 20 fan coil’s zones or 10 AHUs
2. Medium (up 1250 datapoints): up to 70 fan coils’ zones, or 10 AHUs + 50 fan coils’ zones
3. Full (up 2500 datapoints): up to 120 fan coils’ zones, or 10 AHUs + 100 fan coils’ zones
A fan coil zone can consist of up to 30 fan coils, managed via a dedicated controller, also developed and supplied by Daikin.
SCS is available to manage plants composed of the equipment as follows, offering flexibility to cover many different applications and installations.

Nowadays, HVAC plant design requires consideration for plant performance over its whole lifetime, to keep CO2 emissions and running costs as low as possible. Daikin SCS makes this possible, as it ensures optimal control of units in the system, in every condition, for many different plant configurations and with minimum design and installation effort. The reasons indicated below explain the product-related advantages, leading to consistent benefits for designers, consultants, and end customers.
Reason #1: Developed by Daikin, the Smart Control System (SCS) optimizes plant performance by leveraging data from unit sensors and controllers.
Reason #2: Available in three configurations (Light, Medium, Full), the system easily adapts to diverse projects and installations, helping optimise operating costs in small to medium HVAC plants.
Reason #3: With the Smart Control System (SCS), Daikin offers a turnkey solution that simplifies the work of HVAC plant designers and consultants, ensuring efficient system management.
Reason #4: The Smart Control System (SCS) ensures optimal plant performance with advanced optimization logics. It continuously selects the best configuration for all units, balancing comfort, efficiency, and operating costs. Key features include Smart Defrosting to guarantee heating, Advanced Staging algorithms, chilled/heated water temperature optimization, and intelligent pumping control, ensuring all operating conditions are efficiently managed.
Reason #5:The Smart Control System (SCS) offers plug & play installation, requiring only an external panel and a few additional sensors. Each unit connects via Modbus in series, creating a simple, efficient system that primarily leverages onboard sensors.
Reason #6: Its architecture makes the Smart Control System (SCS) highly competitive compared to third-party control solutions, which often require numerous additional sensors.
Reason #7: Optimized lifetime reliability: the Smart Control System (SCS) enhances overall HVAC system reliability by optimizing unit operating conditions, extending system lifespan, and reducing maintenance costs for labor and spare parts. Compared to third-party control systems, SCS requires fewer sensors while ensuring efficient system management.
Reason #8: Fast implementation: the Smart Control System (SCS) can be quickly installed by a Daikin technician during commissioning, eliminating extra costs associated with configuring third-party control systems.
